Club Championships ~ 2011 From the Qualifying rounds for the Club Championships over the weekend of 11th/12th June it was two of Dollar's up and coming youngsters Steven McPherson and Jamie Smith who emerged from the match-play rounds during the following week to contest the 36 holes final on Sunday 19th June. A generally overcast and mild day it was good weather for golf and with the course and greens in their best condition so far this year play was of a very high standard. Both were impressive off the tee and the battle for the title was decided over their approach play. It was in this aspect of play that Steven whose experience prevailed, chipping in from off the green twice and keeping the pressure ever on his 16 years old opponent. Jamie, the Club Junior Captain, who took out some of the Club's top players during the knock-out rounds lost his touch to some extent on the greens leaving many of his putts short and Steven was three holes to the good after the first eighteen. Steven went on to increase his lead and was six up by the 27th hole and although the result did not reflect the closeness of this match and despite his very good game Jamie could only concede defeat at the 31st hole. (Pictured left is Steven McPherson with the Championship trophy) The Division 2 Championship saw the final between Gordon Fenwick and previous winner Norrie Cowan. This proved to be a very close match which was 'nip and tuck' from start to finish. Both played some steady golf although both felt they had played better in the preliminary rounds. That they were all square after the first eighteen reflected the close nature of the game. However, by the 28th hole Gordon had moved to three up - only to be brought back to one up three holes later. Once again it was the approach shots that decided the match and Gordon managed to keep his head in front from here on and closed out the match on the 35th hole - two up with one to play. COUNTY MIXED FOURSOMES Sunday 3rd July 2011 On the hottest day of the year so far, four of the County Clubs produced teams to play for the annual County Mixed Trophy over the Dollar course. With the best three scores to count from the four couples making up each team the outcome was decided by a mere half shot! With the benefit of "home advantage" it was Dollar who prevailed - and it was done fielding only three couples, illness causing the fourth couple to drop out at the last minute. Their combined score of 211 was only .5 of a shot better than the 211.5 of both Alloa and Tillicoultry - Braehead bringing up the rear with 219.5. DOLLAR AMATEUR OPEN Saturday 13th August 2011 Sponsored by David Tait Construction of Dollar the 13th August saw 122 competitors for the Dollar Amateur Open with players competing in both Division 1 (handicaps of 14 and below) and Division 2 (handicaps 15-28). Although damp underfoot following the recent spell of prolonged wet weather the course was well presented and the greens, after some early morning strategic use of the squeegee, were in good order and running true. Despite a few brief showers in the morning and an increasing breeze in the afternoon the overall conditions were good and the winning scores reflected this. Winner on the day, and the Dollar Open Champion for 2011, was Alloa member Jamie Aitken, a scratch player, whose two under par 67 was one shot better than that of runner-up Scott Moffat. In Division 2 the winner of the Osbourne Elliot Cup was Robert Hamilton (Dollar) with a gross 82 and the J M Ritchie Trophy went to visitor Alastair Todd, a former Dollar member, playing off 19 with a nett 67. THE DOLLAR MIXED OPEN FOURSOMES SUNDAY 22nd MAY 2011 Blustery showers, occasional sunshine, some hailstones and a punishing wind proved taxing for the competitors in the Dollar Mixed Open on Sunday 22nd May. However there was a good turn-out and there was some good golf. Top of the leader board were local members Michael and Margaret Todd (pictured above left) whose early round of 66½ (nett) held all day to win the main prize, the 'Brown Rosebowl', by 3½ shots. Best scratch score went to the father/daughter team of Robert and talented junior Eilidh Watson (above right) with a gross 76. The Mail on Sunday National Golf Classic 2011 Dollar played the second round of this country-wide competition against Kinross Golf Club at home on Saturday 26th February in generally good conditions. Kinross fielded a strong side of scratch and single figure players but it was some good golf and local knowledge that saw Dollar take the tie by three matches to two - Charlie Murray winning by 6/5, John McMillan 2/1 and Peter Muss by one hole with Jerry Cant and Charles Norman losing their matches to the visitors.

SPONSORS DAY ~ 13 September 2011 Rained off on 11th August the Sponsors faced the tail end of Hurricane Katia on 13th September with gale force winds and blustery showers. For all that the course was in good condition and the competition none the less keen. With the best net score from the four players on each hole it was the team of Lowcostspares, runners-up for the past two years, who prevailed with a net 57 on countback from David Tait Construction, last year's winners. In third place, with a net 61 was team Automatic Retailing on countback from the the Glen team, Dollar. Team Lowcostspares (L-R) Charlie Murray, Peter Muss (Team Captain), Kenneth Christie & Gordon Fenwick.
