The 2010 Season
A New Experience for Junior Members

Donald Malcolm has taken over the duties of Junior Convener for 2010 and he is optimistic that this important section of the club will continue to flourish. Junior Captain, Jamie Smith, will be helping lead today’s junior members to follow in the foot steps of previous top club, county and national players. At the disposal of the DGC coaching team is a brand new par 72 18 hole Junior Mini Course. Specially designed for clubgolf Stage 1 players it is the first of its kind in Scotland. Along with practice areas for chipping, pitching and putting as well as a full swing driving range, Dollar now has coaching facilities that will ensure a varied and valuable golf learning experience to suit all ages and abilities. Following their clubgolf Player Pathway each junior can move at their own pace to playing on the full 18 hole course.

Coaching at Dollar .... Due to the wet weather coaching on Monday 23rd August has been cancelled. Coaching on 30th August is also cancelled so the next session is MONDAY 6th SEPTEMBER – 5.30-7.00pm – on the course (meet at the Starter Box).

PGA Pro Coaching at Dollar .... Gregor Able delivered his 4th session on Monday 16th August with a new coaching tool being the main focus. Our thanks to club member Bobby Watson, who has provided the clubgolf coaching squad with an Explanar system suitable for our Stage 1 players.

The value of the Explanar is shown as Gregor explains the shape of the golf swing to our Stage 2 prospects.

Gregor explains to the older boys the theory of the golf swing plane using the Explanar system and a couple of clubs which you see on the ground. For a full explanation of the secrets of perfect golf – ask our coaching squad.

The Stage 1 golfers get an insight into the perfect follow through

Gregor explains the importance of keeping the head steady to the Stage 1ers.

Next week we take all this on the course.

Remember the code .... Junior members are reminded that in the interest of their safety and the enjoyment of golf by all members, it is their duty to be AWARE of players behind and in front of them at all times. Juniors MUST give way to adult members and MUST NOT interfere with any member’s play with distracting behaviour. Care of the course is paramount. Divots on the fairways must be replaced. Greens MUST be protected from any damage by clubs or footwear.

DGC Council change club rules to assist Stage 2 players reach their potential .... Up until now juniors have had to reach single figure handicaps to participate in the adult competitions. Following an experiment with Junior Captain Jamie Smith who by playing in gents medal competitions reduced his handicap from 15 to 9 within weeks, this is to change. Now the Junior Convenor may recommend to the Match Secretary selected junior members with high handicaps who nevertheless show sufficient promise and knowledge of golf etiquette to be eligible to enter medals. This is another demonstration of the club’s commitment to junior golf development.

DGC Open Junior Event 10th October 2010 .... Get 10/10/10 in your diaries now … The club will be staging an open event on the 18 hole mini course on this Sunday. More details to follow. Meanwhile get the day in your diary.
